Influences - TUG OF WAR

I have taken a lot of inspiration from existing comedies, both TV shows and films, when it comes to the cinematography of this film. The existing pieces I think are most similar to our script were the British TV shows Friday Night Dinner and Him& Her, as these both focused on a British married couple trying to get through married life.

They are mostly influential for lighting the set because when watching these shows you can clearly see that they have been lit to make the scene seem as natural as possible, as if you could be looking straight into someone’s home, as oppose to watching a TV show.

As well as the lighting, this naturalistic theme was also shown through the colour grading of each of the pieces, as this once again, was kept very natural to make it seem more realistic, something that I wanted to incorporate into our film.

In terms of the shot types however, I did take inspiration from the American comedy Carnage, as once again this had a similar story line, however as this is a film and not a TV show, the shots used were a lot more cinematic, which is something that I wanted to incorporate into our film, so that it looked more professional and less like a TV soap.
